Who Wore Rag & Bone Better? Charlize Theron or Molly Sims

Charlize Theron first wore the bold dupioni Rag & Bone Spring 2009 blazer to the 2008 Fashion Rocks event, along with black leather leggings and a stunning statement necklace.

Fast-forward nine months, and Molly Sims mirrored Charlize’s entire look right down to the black peep-toes at “The “Hangover” New York premiere.

The only difference is Molly’s pants were cropped.

Charlize wins as I feel no originality from Molly’s look, plus I like Charlize necklace, leather pants and the way she rolled up her sleeves to give her look an edgy feel.

Yea, Nay, Or Eh? Auditioning For Hair?

Lea Michele certainly has a flair for the dramatic—the star of Glee grew up performing on Broadway, after all—but we would have preferred to see a more toned-down look on the actress at Fox’s upfront after-party yesterday. On the runway, this Erdem frock was paired with little more than a smoky eye, lending some much-needed edge to a sophisticated print. Michele’s voluminous updo and dark pout are just too much here. What do you think? Do you like seeing the real-life Rachel Berry experiment on the red carpet, or should this solo be cut?

Who Wore Lanvin Better? Gemma Arterton or Sandra Bullock

Gemma Arterton chose this strapless black Lanvin jumpsuit to wear to the “Tamara Drewe” 2010 Toronto Film Festival Premiere back in September 2010.

The British actress went for a minimalist look, wearing barely any makeup and accessorizing with simple black pumps and a feathered clutch.

A simple ponytail completed her look.

Sandra Bullock wore the same jumpsuit to attend the premiere of “The Change-Up” last month.

The actress looked incredibly chic, pairing the jumpsuit with black strappy heels, intricate gold bracelets and hooped earrings.

She wore her hair down in sleek, loose waves and finished her look with soft pink lipstick.

The fit of the jumpsuit is off on Gemma, especially around the legs and she definitely needs more exciting accessories to brighten up her look, so my vote is going to Sandra.

If you can’t make up your mind, click on the image above to see more pictures of these ladies in their Lanvin jumpsuit.

On The “Beautiful Life” Set With Mischa Barton In Chanel, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana And Louis Vuitton

Here is Mischa Barton doing something we haven’t seen her do in a while.

WORK.

The former O.C. star was on set this week, for her new fashion-based TV show – Beautiful Life.

The actress will play a New York-based model in the pilot episode, which will also feature a cameo appearance from supermodel Elle Macpherson.

On Day One we got to see her on set wearing 4 major designers: Chanel, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Her Chanel bouclé white jacket with black trims, was given a nautical touch, with a striped Chanel top, and black shorts.

Another look consisted of a beige Christian Dior Spring 2009 polka dotted, floaty tiered mini dress, with a multiple layered white waist belt, a denim vest, and sand Christian Louboutin Deva suede fringed boots.

This white Dolce & Gabbana strappy tulle bustier dress has been worn many times, so it’s no surprise that it featured in Mischa’s on set wardrobe.

It seems like this show will be worth watching just for the fashion alone. It can fill that big empty void Sex And The City left, and Lucy Liu on Dirty Sexy Money can only partially fill.

Blasblog: When In Rio…Models Take It All Off At Calvin Klein Party

Calvin Klein’s cocktail party and panties preview (as people were calling it) in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday night was equal parts homecoming and frat party. The former because Calvin Klein Collection’s Francisco Costa is Brazilian and was joined by his sister and assorted other relatives, and the latter because the models, some of whom were totally and completely naked, spent the night splashing in the pool while the rest of the partygoers hit the bar. “But don’t feel too bad for them,” CK’s Kevin Carrigan smiled. “We made sure the water was nice and warm.” (For the record, pity wasn’t the first emotion most had when looking at the pool of naked, gorgeous models.) “It’s like a Jacuzzi in there!” Dree Hemingway exclaimed, adding that she had worn her bikini under her clothes just in case, as she had been told might happen, it turned into a pool party later in the evening. “I heard that too,” Rie Rasmussen said. “Which is why I didn’t bring a bathing suit. Let’s skinny-dip!”—Derek Blasberg

Leighton Meester In Marc Jacobs – “Country Strong” Nashville Premiere

Oh divine goddess.

Leighton Meester and Marc Jacobs continue to be a winning combination.

The ‘Gossip Girl’ actress looked a-friggin-mazing at the “Country Strong” Nashville Premiere last night.

Every season I question how will celebrities pull off Marc Jacobs looks on the red carpet and the answer always is, “with ease.”

Her black and maroon asymmetrical crochet dress has to be one of my favourite looks from Leighton this year.

I’ve closed in on the top half of Leighton’s look and you’ll be relieved to know that it has a nude layer and she’s not going sans bra.

Maroon Salvatore Ferragamo pumps, Cathy Waterman jewels and a chic updo complete her look.

I wish she carried the runway clutch, but that’s a minor detail when everything else looks this amazing.

She will definitely be a BDOTW contender.

Cameron Silver In Mary Katrantzou – LAXART Ball OF Artists Event

Cameron Silver, owner of vintage emporium Decades Inc., attended the LAXART Ball OF Artists Event in Beverly Hills, California last night following a short visit to Paris for Couture Week.

He joins a growing list of men like Kanye West and the late Michael Jackson, who have taken womenswear pieces and rocked them as menswear.

On this occasion he wore a custom Mary Katrantzou Spring 2012 multi-coloured floral print suit.

I love the added twist on his look as his pants have a two-tone floral print which blends from his blazer.

Cameron added quirky touches such as his Alexis Mabille peacock feather butterfly bow tie and Christian Louboutin Havana Trash shoes to complete his look.

Bikini still sexy at 65

A young woman eats an ice cream on Manly Beach, Sydney in 1946.

The bikini has had a long run – 65 years to be exact – and it still has a way of making women worry about their figure before the hot January and February days.

Many women often start diets and going to extra workout sessions to get the perfect bikini figure long before even taking out their skimpy swimming suit.

Even though the bikini demands a lot from women who wear one, love for the two-piece suit has been uninterrupted in its six and a half decades. It continues to be the most popular bathing suit and this year a bikini made with the help of a computer has caused a stir.

The bikini comes in many colours and styles from the monokini and the trikini to the tankini and the mixkini. This year’s computer-aided sensation, which is sure to go down in fashion history, is customized to fit perfectly.

Instead of trying the bikini on in a changing room, a scanner is used to measure the customer’s body and the computer processes the data to suggest the ideal cut. The result is a bikini made of thousands of nylon discs in different sizes that fit the body’s curves optimally.

Though two-piece swimming suits for women date back to the Romans, its birth in modern fashion history was recorded on July 5, 1946 in the now abandoned Piscine Molitor, a swimming complex located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

Immediately after World War II it was a popular place to relax, and it was there that fashion designer Louis Reard sent model Micheline Bernadini onto a runway wearing nothing but four triangularly shaped pieces of fabric – two for the top and two for the bottom.

It struck the fashion world like a bomb and in fact took its name from the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean where just a few days prior to the fashion show at the Molitor the US had tested an atomic bomb. The public outrage the swimsuit unleashed was comparable with that caused by the atom bomb tests.

The bikini remained scandalous for a long time and was banned in many swimming pools. Marilyn Monroe posed in a bikini in 1953, the same year Brigitte Bardot caused a furore in a pink-checked bikini in Cannes.

But that exposure ultimately led the skimpy two-piece suit into a shadowy existence. It was viewed as an immoral lapse and did not correspond with the fashion dictates of the ’50s when covering women’s curves with a one-piece suit was held up as model swimming attire.

The bikini was written off as dead until the sexual revolution in the ’60s. It became more popular after Ursula Andress wore one in the 1962 James Bond movie Dr No and was finally accepted when Paco Rabanne made a revealing version out of plastic in 1966. But it was still forbidden in some swimming pools as late as 1968.

Sometimes made from a little less material, sometimes more, but in any case no summer would be the same without the bikini.

I love love love love love swimwear – there is something really special about the cut, the fabrics and the fun…. I don’t mind that it sometimes embarasses my children (and grand-children)

I love bikini’s for everything they represent about warm summer days. But I’ve always thought it intriguing that in the context of summer it’s totally acceptable to walk around certain public places in what is essentially a bra and panties!

Alexa Chung On Challenging Winter Weather

At the launch of Alexa Chung’s debut collection for Madewell at the Bowery Hotel last night, it was apparent that the model turned MTV host turned designer was attending to the details. From the illustrations on the gift bags to the polka dots peeking out from the ankle of a pair of cuffed jeans, Chung’s Annie Hall-meets-Lolita sensibilities proved a perfect complement to J.Crew’s sister brand. “There’s a notebook in there for you. And this is my favorite chocolate from England,” Chung said of the canvas goody bags that were snapped up by fellow partygoers model Daisy Lowe, Pixie Geldof (who was moonlighting as a mannequin for the line), and Tennessee Thomas, drummer of the Like and resident DJ for the night.Although Chung is no stranger to the fashion industry, the collaboration marks Chung’s first-ever design attempt. But, she says, “it wasn’t very hard: I took in drawings or pieces I wanted changed or made up differently.” Voilà—wool overcoats (the plaid’s her favorite), shrunken boy’s blazers, and Big Love-appropriate silk blouses. We had to ask—is this the stepping stone for her own line? “Maybe. I loved working with Madewell, so I’m just going to see where this goes.” Coy about business; less coy about the hazards of fashion week in February. “I look shit in cold weather,” she admitted. “I’ve always got a shit face on. But I’ve got a sheepskin coat. I guess that’s pretty good.”
